    FIRE MARSHAL for the City of Ketchikan, Fire Department.  Plans, organizes, coordinates, and implements fire prevention and fire investigation programs for the City including fire code interpretation, enforcement, and abatement activities.  Plans, schedules and conducts fire inspection of local businesses and commercial enterprises.  Reviews construction projects for compliance with applicable fire codes, related ordinances, and policies.  Five (5) years’ experience as a full time firefighter with a minimum of two (2) years’ performing fire prevention.  Possession of or ability to obtain Fire Code Inspector I and II, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, EMT I and Plans Examiner I and II certificates. 

    The City of Ketchikan is approximately 650 miles north of Seattle, WA and offers an extraordinary quality of life.  The beautiful ocean-island community of Ketchikan has weekly marine ferry service, multiple daily (737) jets.  There is world class salt-water fishing, hunting, boating, and other outdoor recreational opportunities.

    Firefighter I/EMT III: Base pay $20.12/hr $58,589.44/annual*

     w/ ACLS and Expanded Scope $21.40/hr

    Firefighter I/Paramedic: Base pay $22.34/hr $62,695.36/annual*

     Paramedic II (when achieved in 2nd year of employment) $24.08/hr

    Pay increases at 12 months, 24 months and each two years of continued employment through 26 years (per current contract).

    *Additional pay incentives (may be earned based on department need and contract):

    • Fire Investigator - 2.6% of base starting pay
    • Dive Rescue – 2.6% of base starting pay
    • Technical Rescue Team Members - $500 yearly stipend

    Salary range is $91,790.40 - $109,137.60 DOE/Q Excellent benefit package. The Fire Chief is fully vested to manage a full-service Fire Department with fire, EMS, Dive, SAR and emergency management responsibility. City operates a combination department with 8.5 career staff and approximately 100 volunteers. Ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in business, fire science or a related field; Chief Fire Officer or Executive Fire Officer Certification. Must possess, or ability to obtain, a valid Alaska driver’s license.
