The Homer Volunteer Fire Department is looking for progressive leadership committed to supporting a strong volunteer force and an engaged career staff. The Fire Chief leads a combination fire department with 6 career positions and approximately 40 volunteers providing ALS ambulance service and fire service with an ISO 4/4Y. The entry level for line firefighters is Firefighter-I and for EMS it is EMT-I. It is an all hazards organization providing ALS emergency medical services, structural firefighting, wildland firefighting, marine firefighting, ARFF, rope rescue, confined space rescue, ice rescue, and a limited hazmat response. The scope of services requires a robust training program to train recruits, provide advanced courses, refresher training, and continuing education. The Fire Chief is also the Emergency Manager for preparedness, response and recovery. Kachemak City, a small neighboring community contracts with the City of Homer to provide their fire and emergency services. The Fire Department has mutual aid with an emergency service area surrounding the city. The Fire Department operates from three stations and responded to approximately 160 fire calls and 475 EMS calls yearly.
Salary $36.00 - $45.11/ hour, DOE with benefits.
